non-woven bandage made of two layers of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose and impregnated
With 1.2% ionic silver (antimicrobial agent) and enhanced with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid
disodium salt (EDTA) and benzethonium chloride (BEC) and reinforced with regenerated cellulose fiber. The dressing absorbs a large amount of wound exudate and bacteria and forms a soft, cohesive gel that conforms precisely to the wound surface, maintains moisture and helps remove dead tissue from the wound (autolytic cleansing). Moist conditions and the control of wound bacteria support the body's healing process and help reduce the risk of wound infection. The ionic silver in the dressing kills pathogenic microorganisms, both in planktonic and biofilm form, including wound bacteria, yeasts and molds. The dressing also disrupts and absorbs biofilm, which has been shown to inhibit biofilm re-formation (in vitro) and increase the efficiency of silver transfer to microorganisms. The dressing itself also forms an antimicrobial barrier to protect the wound bed.

Intended Use: Aquacel™ Ag+ EXTRA™ dressings are designed to be used as a primary dressing. The dressings are intended to be used under the guidance of a healthcare professional on wounds at risk of infection or with signs of infection or suspected biofilm, and in accordance with the indications.
